Although the biennial National Investigations Symposium has been postponed for next year, the ICAC has stepped up its offering of free online workshops. Standards Australia is inviting comments on its planned revision of the Australian Standard on fraud and corruption control.
The 13th National Investigations Symposium (NIS) has been postponed for 12 months as a precautionary measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The NIS speaker’s program is now scheduled for 17 and 18 November 2021, and the workshops program will be conducted on 16 November 2021. The Four Seasons, Sydney is the confirmed venue.
The NIS is planned and hosted by the NSW ICAC, the NSW Ombudsman and the Institute of Public Administration Australia NSW. These agencies have commenced building a program of Australian and international speakers, who are experts and leading practitioners in their particular fields.
The 2021 program has a new stream devoted to workplace and disciplinary investigations and a preceding program of new interactive workshops.
To receive regular updates about confirmed speakers, workshops and the opening of the early bird registration (mid-2021), please email your contact details to events@nsw.ipaa.org.au.
Many of us who prevent, detect and respond to fraud and corruption professionally, will have used the 2008 Australian Standard on Fraud and Corruption Control (AS8001-2008).
Standards Australia is in the process of revising the standard and a draft has been made available for public comment. Anyone with an interest in the standard can submit comments by 29 July.
The draft retains the prevent-detect-respond model used in the 2008 version. However, it contains “updated guidance on controlling external, often technologically-driven, attacks on Australian organizations”. It also reflects the content of global standards on risk management and anti-bribery management.
The proposed standard articulates a range of minimum requirements. This will mean that organisations can seek to be certified as being compliant with the standard.
Register for our webinar on the changes to the Australian Standard on Fraud and Corruption Control (AS8001-2008)The Commission is hosting a webinar for anyone interested in learning about the proposed changes to the standard. The webinar will be presented by Dean Newlan, who led the Standards Australia working group that has redrafted the standard.
