The ICAC’s 2019–20 report card
“This year has not been without its challenges,” writes the Hon Peter Hall QC, Chief Commissioner, in the foreword to the ICAC’s 2019–20 annual report. “The most sober being not only for the Commission but also for the rest of the state, the nation and the world as we have faced the Coronavirus pandemic and dealt with its consequences.” Below you’ll find a snapshot of facts and figures of the year that was.
During 2019–20, the ICAC:
- received and managed 2,416 matters
- commenced 14 new preliminary investigations, 5 new Strategic Intelligence and Research Unit (SIRU) preliminary investigations and 5 new operations
- completed 7 preliminary investigations, 4 of which were SIRU preliminary investigations
- completed 13 operations
- completed 87.5% of preliminary investigations within the target 120 days
- conducted 4 public inquiries over 56 days and 63 compulsory examinations conducted over 49 days
- furnished its first special report under s 75 of the ICAC Act proposing a new funding model for the Commission
- completed and furnished 1 investigation report to Parliament
- made 12 serious corrupt conduct findings against 6 people, and recommended that the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions be sought with respect to the prosecution of those 6 people for various offences
- delivered 178 anti-corruption presentations and training workshops, reaching over 5,700 people face-to-face and online
- provided corruption prevention advice on 142 occasions
- established a proactive social media presence with the launch of the ICAC’s YouTube channel and the @nswicac Twitter account.
- employed an average of 114.9 full-time equivalent staff across its eight functional areas.
- joined other state integrity bodies as a member of the Australian Public Sector Anti-Corruption Conference Program Coordinating Committee and an official conference partner
- recorded 436,779 external visitor sessions to the ICAC website.
