Symposium back in 2022

The 13th National Investigations Symposium (NIS) – Australia’s leading forum for investigators, complaint-handlers, auditors and senior public sector managers – returns to Sydney in May 2022. Speaking proposals are now invited and early-bird registration opens later this year.

The NIS is a joint initiative of the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption, the NSW Ombudsman and the Institute of Public Administration Australia NSW (IPAA NSW).

The program
The symposium is a three-day biennial event designed to enhance investigative and complaint-handling skills and knowledge. The program comprises a two-day conference, on 25 May and 26 May 2022, of plenary sessions with keynote speakers, and concurrent sessions on a range of themes.

Current program themes include (but are not limited to):

Over 40 practitioners and experts will deliver presentations on a wide range of topics that highlight innovative complaint-handling and investigative practice.

A one-day program of interactive workshops is planned for delivery on 24 May 2022. NIS delegates and non-delegates may register for workshops.

Speaking opportunities

Are you interested in speaking at the NIS? The host agencies are seeking abstracts from practitioners, experts, researchers and policymakers.

Submissions are due by 16 July 2021. Please read the Call for Speakers guideline for information on developing and tendering your submission for consideration.

13 NIS updates

More information about the NIS will be released in the coming months.
You may subscribe to receive regular updates about confirmed speakers, workshops, and the opening of the early bird registration. Please email your contact details to events@nsw.ipaa.org.au to receive updates.

Networking opportunities

The NIS attracts over 500 participants. It is a good networking opportunity for fostering and establishing new professional contacts, and to maintain existing ones.

The host agencies had considered delivering a virtual event in 2021; however, the concept was dismissed because online delivery would have reduced the NIS program to a single stream, and delegate networking opportunities would not have been possible. The host agencies aim to deliver a quality event for delegates and speakers.

Covid-safe event

The NIS was postponed by the host agencies as a precautionary measure due to the pandemic. The host agencies are working with staff at the confirmed venue, the Four Seasons Hotel, to ensure that the symposium is a Covid-safe event.

Early bird registration

Early bird registration opens on 21 October 2021 and closes on 31 January 2022. It is recommended that you register early to avoid disappointment.
