Public inquiry into corruption allegations concerning former City of Botany Bay Council chief financial officer

Tuesday 16 February 2016

The NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) will hold a public inquiry commencing on Monday 29 February 2016 as part of an investigation it is conducting into allegations concerning former City of Botany Bay Council chief financial officer, Gary Goodman (Operation Ricco).

The Commission is investigating allegations that Mr Goodman, and other Council employees, dishonestly exercised official functions to obtain financial benefits for themselves and others by causing fraudulent payments of more than $4.2 million to be made by the Council through false invoicing to either themselves, or various entities.

The ICAC is also investigating allegations that Mr Goodman solicited and received payments as an inducement or reward for showing favourable treatment to contractors. It is also alleged that Mr Goodman and other Council employees dishonestly exercised official functions to obtain financial benefits for themselves and others by using Council resources.

The public inquiry will start at 10:00 am and will be held in the Commission's hearing room on Level 7, 255 Elizabeth Street, Sydney.

The ICAC Commissioner, the Hon Megan Latham, will preside at the public inquiry, and Counsel Assisting the Commission will be Mr Murugan Thangaraj SC. The inquiry is set down for three weeks.
