MEDIA ALERT: ICAC public inquiry into corruption allegations involving security companies and public authorities to resume Monday

Friday 27 July 2012

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) will resume the public inquiry it is holding as part of its investigation into corruption allegations concerning security companies and public authorities on Monday 30 July 2012 at 10:00 am.

Daniel Paul, a security consultant who allegedly received corrupt benefits from officers of Kings Security Group Pty Ltd while engaged by several NSW government agencies, is expected to give evidence at the inquiry on Monday or Tuesday (31 July) next week.

As part of its Operation Tilga investigation, the Commission is investigating whether Mr Paul, the managing and sole director of Hootspah Pty Ltd, while engaged as a security consultant by several NSW public authorities received corrupt benefits from officers of Kings Security Group Pty Ltd and others in return for exercising his public official functions in favour of Kings, and misused information acquired in the course of his official functions.

The ICAC has been examining allegations of corrupt conduct against directors and employees of Kings Security Group in relation to the company's dealings with NSW public authorities. During the course of previous segments of the public inquiry, the Commissioner expanded the scope of the investigation to include further allegations against other contractors and public officials in relation to favouring Kings Security Group.

The Commission is also investigating whether Geoffrey Powell, a consultant to NSW Businesslink, received corrupt benefits from officers of Kings Security Group and others in return for exercising his public official functions in favour of Kings, and misused information acquired in the course of his official functions.

The ICAC Commissioner, the Hon David Ipp AO QC, will continue to preside at the public inquiry, which is expected to continue for three weeks.
