Building a culture of integrity

A workshop for public sector senior executives and other staff responsible for corporate governance, corruption control and organisational culture initiatives. This workshop covers the empirical research that demonstrates how pro-integrity cultures can create high performing organisations that are resistant to corruption and other integrity breaches. It showcases practical tools and techniques designed to support ethical decision-making architecture. These are informed by neuropsychology and ethics studies. Participants are provided with activity sheets which they can take back to their organisation and use to apply these tools and techniques.

Who should attend?

  • Public service senior executives
  • Directors and senior managers responsible for integrity, organisational development, human resources management, enterprise risk management, governance and corruption control
  • Local government general managers/ chief executive officers, deputy GM/CEOs, directors or equivalent
  • CEO, deputy CEO or top tier senior executive from a state-owned corporation, board or trust (in NSW)
  • University vice-chancellor, provost, deputy vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, registrar, faculty dean, head of school, or equivalent in NSW universities.
  • Governance, organisational development, human resources and corruption prevention staff.
Learning outcomes

By the end of this workshop, learners will understand:

  • The integrity responsibilities of public officials and how leaders can communicate this to staff
  • The specific roles of leaders in supporting a pro-integrity culture
  • The empirical research supporting the role of pro-integrity culture in organisational performance and the reduction of corruption and other integrity breaches
  • How to articulate, measure and operationalise an ethical framework for an organisation as part its integrity framework
  • How to engage in practical activities with staff that can support and enhance a pro-integrity culture within the organisation and maintain an ethical decision-making architecture resistant to corruption and other integrity breaches.

  • The public official’s role in maintaining trust in the integrity of government
  • Research on the role of culture and ethics in organisational performance
  • The role of ethical frameworks in contemporary governance standards
  • Ethical and neuropsychological theory and research behind culture-of-integrity interventions
  • The ethical framework and how to measure and operationalise it as part of an organisation’s strategic plan
  • Tools and techniques to engage staff in activities that support and maintain the operationalisation of the ethical framework and ethical decision-making architecture within the organisation (take away handout descriptors)
  • Special guidance for leadership, including on how to measure organisational integrity and corruption prevention maturity.

This workshop is offered as a half-day in-person or online workshop. 

Costs for online and in-person workshops

Tuition 

The ICAC provides all of its workshops to NSW public officials free-of-charge.

Travel expenses

We will cover our trainers’ travel expenses. 

Materials

Your organisation may be asked to make copies of training materials for distribution to attendees at in-person workshops.

Venue and equipment 

For in-person workshops, it is the agency’s responsibility to provide a venue and to cover the cost of any associated venue or equipment hire. The facilitator will bring a laptop, but a data projector, screen and whiteboard will need to be provided.

Catering

For in-person workshops, the agency is expected to provide basic refreshments for attendees and facilitators for all scheduled tea and lunch breaks.
