Surveillance Operative

The NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is looking for experienced, efficient and motivated person to join our Investigation Division (Investigation Services Section) to assist the ICAC to undertake its purpose to investigate, expose and minimise corruption in and affecting the NSW public sector.

Primary purpose of the position

As a member of a surveillance team, provide physical surveillance services and participate in covert field operations, for the purpose of investigations into allegations of corrupt conduct in performance of the Commission's principal functions.


To be eligible to apply for this permanent position you must meet one of the following statuses:

  • an Australian citizen; or
  • a permanent Australian resident.

Selection criteria

It is essential that the successful applicant meets the following criteria and you must individually address each of the following selection criteria in your application.

Applications that do not include a response to the selection criteria cannot be comparatively assessed and are unlikely to progress to the next stage.

The position requires knowledge, skills and experience of covert surveillance work, including:

  1. Knowledge of covert physical surveillance methodologies demonstrated by current or previous experience in physical surveillance operations within a law enforcement environment.

  2. Demonstrated knowledge of Commonwealth and State legislation relevant to the exercise of covert surveillance activities, and investigative methodologies, legal requirements and evidentiary standards for investigations into serious offences or public sector misconduct.

  3. Well developed decision making and prioritisation skills, problem solving and analytical skills.

  4. Ability to work well in a team, communicate effectively with people of diverse background, occupation, and seniority, both internal and external to the Commission.


    Total remuneration package valued up to $134,087 pa (Salary $109,073 - $120,963 pa incorporating an overtime allowance of 9.1% and special allowance of 12.2%), including employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
