Access to information

The Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 ("the GIPA Act") replaced the Freedom of Information Act 1989 from 1 July 2010.

The purpose of the GIPA Act is to facilitate public access to government information contained in a record held by an agency. The ICAC is an agency for the purpose of the GIPA Act.

The GIPA Act requires certain information, defined as "open access information", to be made publicly available by an agency. Other information may be obtained by making an access application. An access application cannot be made for access to any information relating to the ICAC's corruption prevention, complaint handling, investigative or reporting functions. Access applications for information relating to other ICAC functions should be made using the Access Application Form. All such applications will be determined in accordance with Part 4 of the GIPA Act.
